There were no Christmas stockings hung
on that first Christmas day,
Just a lonely manger
and a lowly bed of hay.

There was no jovial Santa Claus
with toys and gifts galore,
But shepherds came from out of fields
to worship and adore.

There was no Christmas tree that day
bedecked with tinsel bright,
But in the East there was a star
that dazzled with its light.

There were no Christmas carolers
to serenade with song,
But hosts of angels gathered 'round
to watch the whole night long.

No fast last-minute shopping
and no Christmas cards to send,
But hope was born in one small Child
for new life without end!

"And the Word was made flesh
and dwelt among us..."

OUR KING IS BORN

Listen my children and I shall tell,
Of the newborn King of Israel.
Jesus, Son of David is His name!
Down through the years,
His birth was foretold,
By Holy seers and prophets of old.
Then in the fullness of time,
Our Lord came!
Mere mortals could never,
Discern His worth.
So, God sent Heaven's angels,
To announce His birth,
To shepherds on a hillside,
That glorious night!
Off to Bethlehem they went,
To see the King that Heaven sent!
No doubt they were awed,
By the wonderful sight!
There in the manger the Christchild lay,
Amidst the sound of animals,
And the smell of hay.
The King of Glory was born of a lowly birth.
Ah, this time was like no other.
For Mary, the virgin became Christ's mother,
And He became the Saviour of the earth!
