Kings and Kingdoms all pass away
nothing on earth endures, but
the Love of God who sent His Son
is Forever and Ever Yours.
Tonight, I am thinking back to the time
when I was a little girl.
I looked forward all year to Christmas day
and to that delightful, magical world.

We only got toys at special times
birthdays and Christmas Eve.
I had no idea when I was small
Just what Mama had up her sleeve!

Santa decorated our tree on Christmas Eve
and we didn't see it till morning
We'd jump out of bed as fast as the wind
As soon as daylight was dawning.

There was the smell of cinnamon and peppermint canes
and my Mother's delicious pies
There was homemade fudge and cookies galore
And you should have seen our eyes
when we gazed on this wondrous Christmas tree
as perfect as any I'd seen
with magic ornaments that sparkled like dew
against this beautiful tree so green.

There were silver icicles, and tinsel ropes
and lights that would shine like a star
Christmas Eve Mom told us of Jesus's birth
while she pointed to that Heavenly star.

How he was born a King in a manger cold
and how he died to save our souls
and although we were small, we knew what she meant
Because we had been told
of how Jesus died on that old wooden cross
With nails in his hands and feet
How he had risen from his grave
Oh! That story was so sweet!

I would like to travel to my heart's content
See all sorts of places and things that I've meant
to see in my lifetime, but wherever I go
I want to be home for Christmas.

I know that I'm happy wherever I am
any other day of the year
But my heart sings with joy and my
childish mind turns to home this time of the year.
And I want to be home for Christmas.

Each year I renew the Christmas spirit
and my children have carried it on
They will go lots of places and see lots of things
But when all is said and done
They want to be home for Christmas

On Christmas I miss my childhood days
but memory takes me back to those years
when there were no cares and life was so sweet
and I feel my eyes filling with tears
How I want to go home for Christmas!

Oh the debates that we had
standing in the cold and the mud,
Each of us rooted by
the tree that we found.

Trying to gain the bragging
rights we each saw,
hoping to cut it
and watch it fall down.

And Oh to be elected
to hand out the gifts,
From under the tree
as it twinkled at home.

Watching the smiles
on each sleepy face,
As the paper piled
up like a dome.

Then without any question to
Grandma and Grandpa's
house we did go,
For a dinner that was
fit for a King.

Sharing the years stories with
our family and friends
Reminiscing Christmas Past
and those who were missing.

Christmas has changed since
the wiser have grown old,
But all the memories still
remain in our heart.

Our children's grown up and
they now have their own,
And it is time, now,
that they play the part.

Let's hope that we taught them
the most that we could,
And the lessons they learned were O.K.
Because before you can imagine
the time has since past,
And it now is our Children's new day.

To fall in love with God
is the greatest of all romances;
to seek Him,
the greatest adventure;
to find Him,
the greatest human achievement.
